20mph

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, is pleased to see that the First Minister is calling for some 20mph roads to be reverted to 30mph.

While on her ‘listening tour of Wales’  Eluned Morgan MS has visited North Wales where it is clear that one key issue is the 20mph speed limit.

The change to 20mph has been met with anger and frustration with a petition opposing it collecting 469,571 signatures, making it the most signed petition in Senedd history.

Commenting in North Wales, the First Minister said:

“I think there will have to be a shift. I think the public have made it clear they're not content with where it is now.

“I think there's an opportunity on some councils to increase the number of exemptions they've got."

Commenting on this news Janet said:

“I am extremely pleased that the First Minister has recognised the blunders of her predecessors.

“The £33 million introduction of this policy has rightly caused outrage across Wales.

“We have had a consultation process for Councils in place now for several months, with the public submitting the roads they would like changed. Clearly, a great number of them should and hopefully will be reverted.

“However, I think it rather disgraceful that the Welsh Government have dumped this on our Local Authorities. They are now having to spend time, money and resources to clean up the Welsh Government’s mess.”
