The Economy Shrinks/Yr economi’n crebachu

Yesterday, it was announced that the UK economy shrank by 0.3% in April, following  £40 billion worth of tax increases introduced by the UK Labour Government.

These increases included rises to employer’s National Insurance Contributions and higher household bills.

The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, further refused to rule out additional tax rises later this year.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, expressed disappointment but not surprise at the latest economic figures.

Commenting on the economic contractions, Janet said:

“Both the UK and Welsh Labour Governments have proven themselves to be anti-business through policies such as the increase to employer’s National Insurance Contributions and the Welsh Government’s failure to scrap business rates for small businesses.

“This naturally has a significant negative impact on the economy, as demonstrated by yesterday’s figures, along with Wales continuing to have the lowest employment rates in Britain, at 72.2%.

“The Chancellor’s refusal to rule out further tax increases is extremely concerning. People across the UK are struggling already, to pay their bills, and meet the financial demand these increases bring.

“It is widely known that the best way to rebuild the economy is to give the British public more disposable income to spend. This is why the Welsh Conservatives have a bold plan to fix Wales by giving 1.7 million people a tax cut.

“The average working family will be £450 per year better off, giving them the choice of how to spend their hard earned money”.

ENDS

Ddoe, cyhoeddwyd bod economi’r DU wedi crebachu 0.3% ym mis Ebrill, yn dilyn cynnydd o £40 biliwn mewn trethi a gyflwynwyd gan Lywodraeth Lafur y DU.

Roedd hyn yn cynnwys cynnydd yng Nghyfraniadau Yswiriant Gwladol cyflogwyr a biliau cartref uwch.

Hefyd, gwrthododd y Canghellor, Rachel Reeves, ddiystyru codiadau treth ychwanegol yn ddiweddarach eleni.

Mynegodd Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, siom ond nid syndod am y ffigurau economaidd diweddaraf.

Wrth sôn am y crebachiadau economaidd, dywedodd Janet:

“Mae Llywodraeth Lafur y DU a Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru wedi profi eu bod yn rhwystro busnesau trwy bolisïau fel cynyddu Cyfraniadau Yswiriant Gwladol cyflogwyr a methiant Llywodraeth Cymru i ddileu ardrethi busnes ar gyfer busnesau bach.

“Mae hyn yn naturiol yn cael effaith negyddol sylweddol ar yr economi, fel y dangosir gan y ffigurau ddoe. Ar ben hynny, Cymru sydd â’r cyfraddau cyflogaeth isaf ym Mhrydain o hyd, sef 72.2%.

“Mae’r ffaith bod y Canghellor yn gwrthod diystyru cynnydd pellach mewn treth yn destun cryn bryder. Mae pobl ledled y DU eisoes ei chael hi’n anodd talu eu biliau a dod o hyd i’r arian sydd ei angen i dalu am y codiadau hyn.

“Mae’r rhan fwyaf o bobl yn gwybod mai’r ffordd orau o ailadeiladu’r economi yw rhoi mwy o incwm gwario i bobl Prydain. Dyna pam mae gan y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig gynllun beiddgar i gael Cymru yn ôl ar ei thraed drwy roi toriad treth i 1.7 miliwn o bobl.

“Bydd teulu cyffredin sy’n gweithio £450 y flwyddyn yn well eu byd, gan roi’r dewis iddyn nhw sut i wario’r arian maen nhw wedi gweithio’n galed amdano”.
