In Dŵr Cymru’s interim results, published this week, the company announced that it is on track to invest £665 million in 2025/26 as part of its largest capital investment programme of over £4 billion for the five years leading up to March 2030.

This funding has been directed towards delivering innovative projects such as the £13 million wetland storm overflow at Pont-y-felin in Torfaen, which aims to harness the natural filtering power of wetlands. Dŵr Cymru also raised £459 million in capital from investors in September.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy and the Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Climate Change and the Environment, welcomed the investment, commenting:

“While investment into innovative programmes is always welcome, with the site in Pont-y-felin being used to reduce the company’s impact on local rivers and set a model for sustainable investment, more needs to be done to ensure that spills into our vital water supplies are limited.

“As the report reiterated, the current CEO, Peter Perry, is set to retire in spring 2026, with Roch Cheroux taking over in January. Reassurances need to be given that the new CEO will not be the recipient of high bonuses if high levels of sewage being pumped into our water supplies are reported. This will demonstrate Dŵr Cymru’s commitment to reducing the impact on our water supplies and environment, as well as hold all members of its executive to account.”
