After the eventual sacking of Peter Mandelson as UK ambassador following increasing outcries about his links with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, James Roscoe has been appointed Interim Ambassador.
James Roscoe attended six form at Ysgol Aberconwy, Conwy, following which he has gone on to have a fantastic career as a highly respected diplomat.
He was previously appointed Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Washington in July 2022.
Before moving to Washington he was the UK Ambassador to the UN General Assembly from 2019. Prior to this, from 2016 to 2019 he held the roles of Director for Communication at the Cabinet Office, and subsequently the Department for Exiting the European Union.
The Interim Ambassador was also previously Communications Secretary to HM The Queen in the Royal Household from 2013 to 2016, and has undertaken postings to the UN, Sierra Leone, and Iraq.
Congratulating the Interim Ambassador, Janet Finch-Saunders MS said:
“The Interim Ambassador is an inspiration. He has diligently served Queen, King, and Country without seeking any media attention.
“For us here in Aberconwy I think it important that we take a moment to celebrate the fact that a former student of Ysgol Aberconwy now represents the whole of the United Kingdom in the United States of America. That is an incredible achievement.
“Whilst I do not know the Interim Ambassador personally, I applaud the fact he has retained links with our community. For example, in December 2023, whilst he was Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Washington, he gave a reading at one of the special Christmas services arranged in the Church of St Mary and All Saints by his former teacher, and Conwy local champion, Mr Chris Roberts”.
