Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has continuously raised deep concerns about corridor care taking place in hospitals across Wales, especially in the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, where an elderly woman sadly died in a corridor in the A&E department at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
Janet commented:
“Over the last week, I have heard from constituents with deep concerns about corridor care in hospitals, and about constituents being seen and discharged, only to be called back hours later by the hospital asking where they were.
“These reports, along with overcrowding, long waiting times, delayed discharges, and capacity pressures within the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, are deeply concerning and highlight the continued significant failure of the Welsh Labour Government in managing our Welsh NHS.
“Our hardworking doctors, nurses, cleaners, and other medical professionals also engage with elected officials like myself to express their deep concerns about corridor care taking place in hospitals due to Welsh Government failings.
“It is completely unacceptable that patients are still being treated in A&E corridors. I will continue to press for change and to amplify the calls being made by the BEDS campaign and the British Medical Association, whom I stood alongside outside the Senedd last year when they called for an end to corridor care.
“These are not political voices – they are frontline health professionals and patients who see the consequences of this situation every day.
“The Welsh Government must listen to these warnings from health professionals and residents across Wales and take urgent action to end corridor care and restore safe, dignified care within our NHS.”
