A TOP level emergency meeting has taken place to assess what has to be done to deal with flooding in the Conwy Valley.

Robin Millar MP, Janet Finch-Saunders AM and cllr Sam Rowlands leader of Conwy county borough council held an emergency call to discuss the unfolding events in the Conwy Valley following Storm Ciara and examine what action is necessary.

Llanrwst and the village of Trefriw are the worst hit with extensive flooding along the length of the valley, cutting off roads, access routes and flooding properties.

Cllr Rowlands said: "Our thoughts are all with residents and the practical problems of warmth and shelter and family possessions. Emergency provisions and staff are in place for anyone needing help. Our teams started work on Friday."

Janet Finch-Saunders AM said: "This keeps happening time and time again and is devastating for residents. I will be tabling an emergency question in the Senedd to ask about flooding defences and funding. We need to have an independent enquiry to establish flood defences that work."

Robin Millar MP said: "The priority is the safety of residents and I am very grateful for the excellent work being done by council teams.

“I will be meeting Natural Resources Wales to discuss this and ask about their management of the waterways. This is a recurring problem and there needs to be an independent inquiry into this. Residents in the Valley should not have to keep putting up with this."
