Conwy

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is appalled to learn that Conwy County Borough Council will further hike the price of the Telecare service in Conwy for additional income.

The price of the Telecare Service for the elderly, disabled and vulnerable in Conwy that provides vital lifesaving assistance in an emergency is set to increase again in April by 35%.

In their most recent budget Conwy Council plan to take the Telecare fee from £5.95 a week to £8 in order to generate additional income.

This comes on top of the extortionate 70% rise only a few months ago last September – going from £182.00 to £310.25.

Janet said back then it is:

“...another disgraceful example in Conwy where council taxpayers are being fleeced by an inefficient and failing Local Authority.”

Commenting on this today Janet said:

“Yet again our most vulnerable in society are being treated with disregard. It is absolutely disgusting that Conwy Borough County Council intend to profit off the vulnerable and elderly in society.

“After the last price hike our most vulnerable residents were left paying the highest Telecare costs in Wales – since 2022 the service has increased 129%. It is vital that these sorts of services are kept low in cost and are not-for-profit. Are we to expect those who have paid into the pot their entire life to now be having to cough up again for their own well-being?

“Conwy County Borough Council need to get their priorities straight, listen to their own report which highlights an adverse impact to well-being and look after those who deserve it most.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi dychryn o glywed y bydd Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy yn codi pris y gwasanaeth Teleofal yng Nghonwy ymhellach i sicrhau incwm ychwanegol.

Mae disgwyl i bris y Gwasanaeth Teleofal ar gyfer yr henoed, pobl anabl a bregus yng Nghonwy, sy'n darparu cymorth achub bywyd hanfodol mewn argyfwng, gynyddu eto o 35% ym mis Ebrill.

Yn eu cyllideb ddiweddaraf mae Cyngor Conwy yn bwriadu cymryd y ffi Teleofal o £5.95 yr wythnos i £8 er mwyn creu incwm ychwanegol.

Daw hyn ar ben y cynnydd enfawr o 70% ychydig fisoedd yn ôl fis Medi diwethaf – pan gododd o £182.00 i £310.25. Dywedodd Janet bryd hynny fod hon yn

"enghraifft warthus eto fyth yng Nghonwy lle mae trethdalwyr y cyngor yn cael eu twyllo gan Awdurdod Lleol aneffeithlon a diffygiol".

Wrth sôn am hyn heddiw dywedodd Janet:

"Unwaith eto, mae’r bobl fwyaf bregus mewn cymdeithas yn cael eu diystyru. Mae'n hollol warthus bod Cyngor Sir Bwrdeistref Conwy yn bwriadu elwa ar y bregus a'r henoed mewn cymdeithas.

"Ar ôl y codiad diwethaf mewn prisiau, roedd ein trigolion mwyaf bregus yn wynebu’r costau Teleofal uchaf yng Nghymru - ers 2022 mae'r gwasanaeth wedi cynyddu 129%. Mae'n hanfodol bod cost y mathau hyn o wasanaethau yn cael ei chadw’n isel a’u bod yn wasanaethau nid-er-elw. Ydyn ni’n disgwyl i'r rhai sydd wedi talu trethi gydol eu hoes i dalu mwy fyth er mwyn diogelu eu lles?

"Mae angen i Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy gael trefn ar ei flaenoriaethau, gwrando ar ei adroddiad ei hun sy'n tynnu sylw at yr effaith andwyol ar les a gofalu am y rhai mwyaf haeddiannol.”
