Yesterday, the Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his deal with the EU.
Janet Finch-Saunders the Member of Welsh Parliament, for Aberconwy, a costal constituency, that is home to a historic fishing sector, has raised significant concerns about the deal on fisheries.
Under the deal, the EU and the UK have agreed to roll over the existing fishing deal for another 12 years., providing access to UK waters for EU fishers.
This has caused major concerns for the fishing industry, with many concerned by what this deal will mean for the livelihoods.
Commenting on the UK and EU deal, Janet said:
“I am deeply concerned by the extension of the current fishing agreement for another 12 years. I understand that that the EU was only originally hoping for 5!
“The deal will mean that EU vessels will get access to UK waters to fish, in return for transferring 25% of their fishing quota.
“Yet fishing groups and organisations across the whole of the UK have criticised the existing deal, as it takes away the industries bargaining power in further talks, and instead called for annual negotiations with the EU.
“In fact, I am shocked that there are no reciprocal arrangement of more fish for our fishermen to catch in EU waters, which would have also given increased volumes for our processing sector.
“It is about time that the UK Government starts to put our fishing industry first”.

Ddoe, cyhoeddodd y Prif Weinidog Keir Starmer ei gytundeb gyda'r UE.
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, sy’n etholaeth arfordirol ac sy'n gartref i sector pysgota hanesyddol, wedi rhannu pryderon sylweddol am y cytundeb ar bysgodfeydd.
O dan y cytundeb, mae'r UE a'r DU wedi cytuno i barhau â’r cytundeb pysgota presennol am 12 mlynedd arall, gan ddarparu mynediad at ddyfroedd y DU i bysgotwyr yr UE.
Mae hyn wedi achosi pryderon mawr i'r diwydiant pysgota, gyda llawer yn poeni am yr hyn y bydd y cytundeb hwn yn ei olygu i'w bywoliaeth.
Wrth sôn am gytundeb y DU a'r UE, dywedodd Janet:
"Rwy'n bryderus iawn am ymestyn y cytundeb pysgota presennol am 12 mlynedd arall. Rwy'n deall mai dim ond am 5 mlynedd yr oedd yr UE wedi’i obeithio yn y lle cyntaf!
"Bydd y cytundeb yn golygu y bydd llongau'r UE yn cael mynediad i ddyfroedd y DU i bysgota, yn gyfnewid am drosglwyddo 25% o'u cwota pysgota.
"Ac eto, mae grwpiau a sefydliadau pysgota ledled y DU gyfan wedi beirniadu'r cytundeb presennol, gan ei fod yn dwyn ymaith pŵer bargeinio y diwydiannau mewn trafodaethau pellach, ac yn lle hynny yn galw am drafodaethau blynyddol gyda'r UE.
"Mewn gwirionedd, mae’n dipyn o sioc nad oes trefniant cilyddol o fwy o bysgod i'n pysgotwyr eu dal yn nyfroedd yr UE, a fyddai hefyd wedi rhoi mwy o gyfeintiau i'n sector prosesu.
"Mae'n hen bryd i Lywodraeth y DU ddechrau rhoi ein diwydiant pysgota yn gyntaf".
