Nearly 90 workers at GRH Food Company in Gwynedd were left devastated after firm went into administration
Welsh Government has been pressed on the action it will take to support north west Wales after the latest jobs blow and asked to review its grant awarding process.
Yesterday, nearly 90 workers at GRH Food Company in Minffordd in Gwynedd were left devastated when it was announced the cheese company was going into administration and staff were being made redundant.
It is the latest economic blow to hit north west Wales since the start of 2019 that started with the devastating news that the multi-billion pound Wylfa Newydd nuclear project in Anglesey was being suspended.
This was followed by news Rehau was closing its Amlwch plastics site with 100 jobs affected and the collapse of electrical firm Falconers in Penrhyndeudraeth - hitting 60 workers.
The region was also affected by the Dawnus failure while in Llanrwst GM Jones went in administration, affecting 40 jobs.
Aberconwy AM Janet Finch-Saunders wants the Welsh Government to look at its grant system with both GRH Food and GM Jones receiving a total of £2.1m in funding to relocate to new headquarters prior to them going into financial difficulties.
Meanwhile farming union the FUW urged the Welsh Government to step in to save the plant.
Economy Secretary Ken Skates said the GRH news was devastating for all affected and they were working hard to secure jobs and support the workforce.
He added: “We have reacted swiftly in the region to similar situations by pulling together all those who can provide support within government and outside, so we can offer advice and support to the individuals and supply chains affected.
"We will replicate this approach with GRH.”
He added: “We are fully committed to delivering a transformative growth deal for North Wales and are working with partners to get the package and direction right for the region.
