26th July – 10th August 2025 marks National Marine Week, a celebration of the UK’s seas. Across these two weeks, Wildlife Trusts around the UK, will be holding many events, with something on offer for everyone.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy and Shadow Minster for Climate Change and the Environment, has been a strong advocate for our seabeds and a champion for the protection of our marine environment.

Commenting on National Marine Week, Janet said:

“My Welsh Conservative colleagues and I have long been advocates for our vital marine environment. We have pledged to create a National Marine Development Plan, which will provide guidance to help protect the marine environment during developments.

“We have also called for the creation of a Blue Carbon Recovery Plan for Wales, designed to maintain and enhance our invaluable marine blue carbon habitats. This includes continuing to build on the success of Project Seagrass , a collaboration between Sky Ocean Rescue, WWF, and Swansea University.

“I have also been advocating for the protection of the last wild mussel bed in the United Kingdom, located in Conwy.

“43% of Wales lies at sea, yet apart from myself, hardly any politicians raise marine policy regularly in the Senedd. This needs to change , the huge potential both above and below the waves can no longer be ignored.”

Mae 26 Gorffennaf – 10 Awst 2025 yn nodi Wythnos Genedlaethol y Môr, dathliad o foroedd y DU. Dros y pythefnos, bydd Ymddiriedolaethau Natur ledled y DU, yn cynnal llu o ddigwyddiadau, gyda rhywbeth at ddant pawb.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy a Gweinidog yr Wrthblaid dros Newid Hinsawdd a'r Amgylchedd, wedi bod yn eiriolwr cryf dros welyau ein moroedd ac yn lladmerydd dros ddiogelu ein hamgylchedd morol.

Gan gyfeirio at Wythnos Genedlaethol y Môr, dywedodd Janet:

"Mae fy nghydweithwyr yn y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig a minnau wedi bod yn eiriolwyr dros ein hamgylchedd morol hanfodol ers amser maith. Rydyn ni wedi addo creu Cynllun Datblygu Morol Cenedlaethol, a fydd yn cynnig arweiniad i helpu i ddiogelu'r amgylchedd morol yn ystod datblygiadau.

"Rydyn ni hefyd wedi galw am greu Cynllun Adfer Carbon Glas i Gymru, wedi'i lunio i gynnal a gwella ein cynefinoedd carbon glas morol amhrisiadwy. Mae hyn yn cynnwys dal ati i adeiladu ar lwyddiant Project Seagrass, cydweithrediad rhwng Sky Ocean Rescue, WWF, a Phrifysgol Abertawe.

"Rydw i hefyd wedi bod yn eiriol dros ddiogelu'r gwely cregyn gleision gwyllt olaf yn y Deyrnas Unedig, sydd yng Nghonwy.

"Mae 43% o Gymru yn gorwedd ar y môr, ond ar wahân i fi, prin yw’r gwleidyddion sy’n codi’r polisi morol yn rheolaidd yn y Senedd. Mae angen i hyn newid, ni ellir anwybyddu'r potensial enfawr uwchben ac o dan y tonnau mwyach."
