Yesterday white plumes of smoke announced the election of Pope Leo XIV. His excellency is the first North American to have been elected leader of the Catholic Church.
Pope Leo XIV is known for his outgoing nature, being down to earth and very concerned with the poor. These are all qualities that will enable his Excellency to engage and connect with people across the world, as well as ensuring that he is able to support and aid the most vulnerable in our society.
Following the news of the Pope’s election Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, extends her best wishes to Pope Leo XIV and celebrates this appointment with Catholics across the whole of Aberconwy.
Commenting on the election of Pope Leo XIV Janet said:
“I want to extend my congratulations to the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, as well as to Catholics across Aberconwy following this joyful news.
“The new Pope has been a strong advocate for action to be taken to combat climate change, with His Excellency calling for mankind to build a “relationship of reciprocity” with the environment.
“These values and his passion for helping the most vulnerable in society will enable Pope Leo XIV to bring forward progressive change, as well as continuing Pope Francis’s spirit of humility and compassion”.

Ddoe cyhoeddodd pluen o fwg gwyn fod y Pab Leo XIV wedi'i ethol. Ei Ardderchogrwydd yw'r cyntaf o Ogledd America i gael ei ethol yn arweinydd yr Eglwys Gatholig.
Mae'r Pab Leo XIV yn adnabyddus am ei natur radlon a di-lol a'r ffaith ei fod yn bryderus iawn am y tlawd. Mae'r rhain i gyd yn rhinweddau a fydd yn galluogi ei Ardderchogrwydd i ymwneud a chysylltu â phobl ledled y byd, yn ogystal â sicrhau ei fod yn gallu cefnogi a helpu'r rhai mwyaf agored i niwed yn ein cymdeithas.
Yn dilyn y newyddion am etholiad y Pab, mae Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Aberconwy, yn estyn ei dymuniadau gorau i'r Pab Leo XIV ac yn dathlu'r penodiad hwn gyda Chatholigion ledled Aberconwy.
Wrth sôn am etholiad y Pab Leo XIV, dywedodd Janet:
“Hoffwn estyn llongyfarchiadau i'r Pab newydd Leo XIV, yn ogystal ag i Gatholigion ledled Aberconwy yn dilyn y newyddion hapus hwn.
“Mae'r Pab newydd wedi bod yn eiriolwr cryf dros weithredu i fynd i'r afael â newid hinsawdd, gyda'i Ardderchogrwydd yn galw ar ddynoliaeth i feithrin "perthynas ddwyochrog" gyda'r amgylchedd.
“Bydd y gwerthoedd hyn a'i angerdd dros helpu'r rhai mwyaf bregus mewn cymdeithas yn galluogi'r Pab Leo XIV i gyflwyno newidiadau blaengar, yn ogystal â pharhau ag ysbryd gostyngeiddrwydd a thrugaredd y Pab Ffransis”.
