Cartrefi Conwy Criticised for “Not prioritising locals” for Housing / Tai - beirniadu Cartrefi Conwy am "beidio â rhoi blaenoriaeth i bobl leol"

Cartrefi Conwy has been criticised for its decision to rent properties in the private sector, and use some of its own housing stock, to house more than 100 overseas nurses.

The NHS covers the first month’s rent while the nurses settle in and start their training to convert their qualifications to UK standards. After that, it is down to the nurses to pay the rent.

Commenting on the decision by Cartrefi Conwy, Janet said:

“It is disappointing that Cartrefi Conwy are not prioritising locals for housing at a time when Conwy Council’s spend on temporary accommodation is over £4m a year.

“There are hundreds of locals trapped in B&Bs and hotels, unable to find a home. Even Cartrefi Conwy tell me on a regular basis that local demand is completely outstripping supply.

“I have repeatedly highlighted to the Welsh Government and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board that they have hundreds of accommodation units on the Health Board estate that could be used, if brought up to standard. That is where accommodation for these much valued medical professionals should be provided, not from Cartrefi Conwy stock”.

ENDS

Mae Cartrefi Conwy wedi cael ei feirniadu am ei benderfyniad i rentu eiddo yn y sector preifat, a defnyddio peth o'i stoc tai ei hun, i gartrefu mwy na 100 o nyrsys tramor.

Mae'r GIG yn talu rhent y mis cyntaf tra bod y nyrsys yn setlo i mewn ac yn dechrau ar eu hyfforddiant i drosi eu cymwysterau i safonau'r DU. Ar ôl hynny, cyfrifoldeb y nyrsys yw talu'r rhent.

Wrth sôn am benderfyniad Cartrefi Conwy, dywedodd Janet:

"Mae'n siomedig nad yw Cartrefi Conwy yn blaenoriaethu pobl leol ar gyfer tai ar adeg pan mae gwariant Cyngor Conwy ar lety dros dro dros yn £4m y flwyddyn.

"Mae cannoedd o bobl leol wedi gorfod aros mewn llety gwely a brecwast a gwestai ac yn methu dod o hyd i gartref. Mae hyd yn oed Cartrefi Conwy yn dweud wrthyf yn rheolaidd bod y galw lleol yn mynd yn llawer mwy na'r cyflenwad.

"Rwyf wedi tynnu sylw Llywodraeth Cymru a Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr dro ar ôl tro at y ffaith fod ganddyn nhw gannoedd o unedau llety ar ystad y Bwrdd Iechyd y gellid eu defnyddio, pe baen nhw’n cael eu codi i'r safon. Dyna lle dylid darparu llety i'r gweithwyr meddygol proffesiynol gwerthfawr hyn, nid o stoc Cartrefi Conwy".
