Following months of campaigning to save the fire station in Conwy town, North Wales Fire Authority have decided to keep the centre open and operational.

The closure of the station in Conwy was proposed by the Authority as part of a consultation over cost-cutting measures.

Also threatened with closure were Abersoch, Beaumaris, Cerrigydrudion, and Llanberis.

Speaking after the learning that the stations will not be closed, Janet said:

“I would like to thank local residents for working with me to help save Conwy fire station.

“As part of the campaign I have met and corresponded with Dawn Docx, the Chief Fire Officer, especially so to try and save Conwy fire station.

“It was clear to me that the closure would have increased the risk to Conwy and the surrounding areas. Llanfairfechan and Llandudno would have been the nearest stations to provide firefighting services, and as a result of the increased distance, there would have been a detrimental impact on response times.

“I am grateful to the fire authority for listening. They clearly now understand how vital it is that there is community support for any plans”.

Yn dilyn misoedd o ymgyrchu i achub yr orsaf dân yn nhref Conwy, mae Awdurdod Tân Gogledd Cymru wedi penderfynu cadw'r ganolfan ar agor ac ar waith.

Cynigiodd yr Awdurdod gau'r orsaf yng Nghonwy fel rhan o ymgynghoriad ynghylch mesurau torri costau.

Roedd Abersoch, Biwmares, Cerrigydrudion, a Llanberis dan fygythiad i gau hefyd.

Wrth siarad ar ôl clywed na fydd y gorsafoedd yn cau, dywedodd Janet:

“Hoffwn ddiolch i drigolion lleol am weithio gyda mi i helpu i achub gorsaf dân Conwy.

“Fel rhan o'r ymgyrch rwyf wedi cyfarfod a gohebu â Dawn Docx, y Prif Swyddog Tân, yn arbennig i geisio achub gorsaf dân Conwy.

“Roedd hi’n amlwg i mi y byddai cau wedi cynyddu'r risg i Gonwy a'r cyffiniau. Llanfairfechan a Llandudno fyddai'r gorsafoedd agosaf i ddarparu gwasanaethau diffodd tân, ac o ganlyniad i'r pellter ychwanegol, byddai hynny wedi cael effaith andwyol ar amseroedd ymateb.

“Rwy'n ddiolchgar i'r awdurdod tân am wrando. Maen nhw’n deall yn iawn nawr pa mor hanfodol yw hi fod cefnogaeth gymunedol i unrhyw gynlluniau”.
