Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has called on the Welsh Government to develop a plan to strengthen the Gross Value Added (GVA) in Conwy County.

GVA measures the contribution to the economy of each individual producer, industry or sector. The average GVA in Conwy County is £15,571 per head per year. That is

-           £7,202 less than the average for North Wales

-           £15,878 less than Flintshire

-           And £19,819 less than Cardiff

Commenting on the need to strengthen the local economy, Janet said:

“It is disgraceful that GVA in Flintshire and the Capital is more than double that in Conwy County.

“That is genuine regional inequality, and there has been barely any improvement. Conwy’s GVA was £13,105 in 2013.

“So to strengthen GVA in Conwy, we need to increase the difference between the value of goods and services produced and the cost of raw materials and other inputs.

“We have fantastic businesses in a broad range of sectors, but it is imperative that the Welsh Government develop a plan to improve the GVA so that our local and regional economy is more successful.”

ENDS

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi galw ar Lywodraeth Cymru i ddatblygu cynllun i gryfhau'r Gwerth Ychwanegol Gros (GYG) yn Sir Conwy.

Mae GYG yn mesur cyfraniad pob cynhyrchydd, diwydiant neu sector unigol at yr economi. Y GYG cyfartalog yn Sir Conwy yw £15,571 y pen y flwyddyn. Mae hynny

-           £7,202 yn llai na'r cyfartaledd ar gyfer Gogledd Cymru

-           £15,878 yn llai na Sir y Fflint

-           A £19,819 yn llai na Chaerdydd

Wrth sôn am yr angen i gryfhau'r economi leol, dywedodd Janet:

"Mae'n warthus bod GYG yn Sir y Fflint a'r Brifddinas fwy na dwbl yr hyn ydyw yn Sir Conwy.

"Mae hynny'n anghydraddoldeb rhanbarthol gwirioneddol, a phrin y bu unrhyw welliant. Roedd GYG Conwy yn £13,105 yn 2013.

"Felly er mwyn cryfhau GYG yng Nghonwy, mae angen i ni gynyddu'r gwahaniaeth rhwng gwerth nwyddau a gwasanaethau a gynhyrchir a chost deunyddiau crai a mewnbynnau eraill.

"Mae gennym ni fusnesau gwych mewn ystod eang o sectorau, ond mae'n hanfodol bod Llywodraeth Cymru yn datblygu cynllun i wella'r GYG fel bod ein heconomi leol a rhanbarthol yn fwy llwyddiannus."
