Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is delighted to see that Conservative Councillors in Conwy County Borough Council have tabled a motion requesting that Conwy’s plans to close public toilets be put on hold and re-debated.

This follows the announcement last week by CCBC that they planned on closing 19 of its 40 public conveniences.

There was huge controversy after sources from the Council had indicated that some councillors were not explicitly informed about the closure proposals, with no formal consultation being conducted.

Therefore, Conservative Councillors have signed the motion, which was submitted to the Cabinet on Monday evening.

Commenting on the motion, Janet said:

“I am extremely pleased to see my Conservative colleagues challenging the Council on this matter.

“These facilities are of vital importance to many communities and the idea that the Council wanted to just shut half of them down without proper consultation was an outrage. It would have showed a blatant disregard for convention and precedent.

“There have been a number of shortcomings by the Council recently, and the idea that the Council slipped these planned closures into the Budget Reduction Proposal is deeply concerning.

“Indeed, many of my constituents are questioning how on earth Conwy Council can raise council tax by 20% since 2023 and then decide to slash our public facilities and services.

“I fully support my Conservative Colleagues in their motion, and I look forward to them presenting their case to prevent these closures from taking place”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yn falch iawn o weld bod cynghorwyr Ceidwadol Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy wedi cyflwyno cynnig yn gofyn am ohirio ac ail-drafod cynlluniau Conwy i gau toiledau cyhoeddus.

Daw hyn yn dilyn cyhoeddiad Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy yr wythnos diwethaf eu bod yn bwriadu cau 19 allan o 40 cyfleuster cyhoeddus.

Roedd dadlau mawr wedi i ffynonellau o’r Cyngor nodi nad oedd rhai cynghorwyr wedi cael gwybod yn benodol am y cynigion i gau, ac nad oedd ymgynghoriad ffurfiol yn cael ei gynnal.

Felly, mae cynghorwyr y Ceidwadwyr wedi llofnodi’r cynnig a gafodd ei gyflwyno i'r Cabinet nos Lun.

Wrth sôn am y cynnig, dywedodd Janet:

"Rwy'n hynod falch o weld fy nghydweithwyr yn y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn herio'r Cyngor ar y mater hwn.

"Mae'r cyfleusterau hyn yn bwysig iawn i lawer o gymunedau ac roedd y syniad bod y Cyngor am gau eu hanner heb ymgynghori’n briodol yn gywilyddus. Byddai wedi dangos diystyrwch amlwg i gonfensiwn a chynsail.

"Mae’r Cyngor wedi gwneud llawer o gamgymeriadau yn ddiweddar, ac mae'r syniad bod y Cyngor wedi cynnwys y cynlluniau cau arfaethedig hyn yn y Cynnig Lleihau Cyllideb yn achosi pryder mawr.

"Yn wir, mae llawer o fy etholwyr yn cwestiynu sut y gall Cyngor Conwy godi’r dreth gyngor 20% ers 2023 ac yna penderfynu torri ein cyfleusterau a'n gwasanaethau cyhoeddus.

"Rwy'n llwyr gefnogi fy nghydweithwyr yn y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn eu cynnig, ac edrychaf ymlaen at gyflwyno eu hachos i atal y cau hwn rhag digwydd".
