Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, is calling on the Welsh Government to take action to help tackle the mobile signal crisis in Llandudno.

This follows the headlines over the weekend, such as “Mobile networks swamped by tourists causing 'embarrassing' problems for North Wales” and “Tourism surge Wales strains mobile networks hitting local businesses”.

Commenting ahead of addressing the Welsh Parliament on the matter, Janet said:

“The consequences of the overloading of masts in Llandudno are serious. Mobile payment machines are failing, leaving businesses unable to take payments; and residents and visitors cannot get hold of loved ones.

“Mobile service providers are informing residents and businesses that they need to wait until winter to have a reliable service restored. That just isn’t good enough.

“Llandudno needs 21st century technology, and the Welsh Government should work with the local authority, UK Government, and private sector to put a plan together for the community”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yn galw ar Lywodraeth Cymru i weithredu i helpu i fynd i'r afael â'r argyfwng signal ffonau symudol yn Llandudno.

Daw hyn yn dilyn y penawdau dros y penwythnos, megis "Rhwydweithiau symudol yn cael eu  gorlethu gan dwristiaid yn achosi problemau 'annifyr' i Ogledd Cymru" ac "ymchwydd twristiaeth Cymru yn rhoi pwysau ar rwydweithiau symudol sy'n taro busnesau lleol".

Wrth siarad cyn annerch y Senedd ar y mater, dywedodd Janet:

"Mae canlyniadau gorlwytho mastiau yn Llandudno yn ddifrifol. Mae peiriannau talu symudol yn methu, gan adael busnesau yn methu â chymryd taliadau; dyw preswylwyr nac ymwelwyr yn gallu cadw mewn cysylltiad ag anwyliaid.

"Mae darparwyr gwasanaethau ffonau symudol yn rhoi gwybod i drigolion a busnesau bod angen iddyn nhw aros tan y gaeaf i adfer gwasanaeth dibynadwy. Dyw hynny ddim yn ddigon da.

"Mae angen technoleg yr 21ain ganrif ar Landudno, a dylai Llywodraeth Cymru weithio gyda'r awdurdod lleol, Llywodraeth y DU, a'r sector preifat i lunio cynllun ar gyfer y gymuned".
