Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is deeply concerned that over 85,000 motorists in Wales were caught exceeding the 20mph speed limit in 2024.

With 36,710 in North Wales, the figures expose the policy's disconnect from daily life. Despite claims of "effectiveness," many residents see it as "ridiculous."

GoSafe data from December shows the average speed of those caught in North Wales was 28.5mph.

Commenting on the news Janet said:

“That nearly 100,000 motorists have been caught breaching the 20mph limit, it is yet further evidence of public dissatisfaction with the law.

“Local authorities in North Wales should urgently disclose the outcome of the reviews of all 20mph roads.

“The longer local authorities delay on making changes, the more who will be caught and public dissatisfaction will grow”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o'r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yn bryderus iawn bod dros 85,000 o fodurwyr yng Nghymru wedi cael eu dal yn gyrru dros y terfyn cyflymder o 20mya yn 2024.

Gyda 36,710 yn rhanbarth y Gogledd, mae'r ffigurau'n pwysleisio'r fath gagendor rhwng y polisi a bywyd bob dydd. Er gwaethaf honiadau o "effeithiolrwydd," mae llawer o drigolion yn ystyried hyn yn "hurt."

Mae data Gan Bwyll yn dangos mai cyflymder cyfartalog y rhai a gafodd eu dal ar ffyrdd y Gogledd ym mis Rhagfyr oedd 28.5mya.

Wrth sôn am y newyddion dywedodd Janet:

“Gan fod bron i 100,000 o fodurwyr wedi cael eu dal yn torri'r terfyn 20mya, mae'n dystiolaeth bellach eto o anfodlonrwydd y cyhoedd gyda'r gyfraith.

“Dylai awdurdodau lleol y Gogledd ddatgelu canlyniad yr adolygiadau o'r holl ffyrdd 20mya ar frys.

“Po hiraf mae awdurdodau lleol yn oedi cyn gwneud newidiadau, bydd mwy fyth o bobl yn cael eu dal ac anfodlonrwydd cyhoeddus yn tyfu”.
