Cabinet Secretary questioned over long term future of Conwy Valley Railway Line

Following recent flooding, and temporary closure of the Conwy Valley Railway Line, the Assembly Member for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has asked serious questions to the Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Transport over the long term future of this vitally important line.

Janet said:

“The Conwy Valley Railway line is an extremely important link between the mountains and sea of North Wales. As I have said previously, with it running from Llandudno to Dolwyddelan and onwards, it really is at the heart of our top tourism industry.

“However, with the railway been situated on a raised embankment right beside the Conwy river, it is almost inevitable that she will flood at one point every year.

“Whilst closure does cause problems and command extra expense in maintenance, I have written to the Cabinet Secretary for details of what measures are being taken to ensure its long term viability, and what plans the Welsh Government have to further promote this unique link”.

ENDS

Written Assembly Questions submitted by Janet Finch-Saunders AM to Ken Sakes AM, Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Transport:

  1. Will the Cabinet Secretary make a statement on the impact of flooding on the Conwy Valley Railway Line, and explain what measures the Welsh Government are taking to ensure its long term viability?
  2. Will the Cabinet Secretary make a statement on the importance of the Conwy Valley Railway Line to the tourism industry of North Wales, and explain what plans the Welsh Government have to further promote this link between the sea and mountains?
