Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has been praised by Janet Finch-Saunders MS on the success of its new stroke unit at Llandudno Hospital.

The stroke unit opened in December 2022. It is a specialist community inpatient rehabilitation centre for patients who no longer need specialist stroke treatment at an acute hospital, but still require stroke rehabilitation that cannot be delivered at home.

Patients are encouraged to engage in activities and exercises designed to promote recovery and independence, including daily self-care tasks, walking and communication and cognitive tasks.

The 16 bed unit supported 81 patients so far.

Speaking after visiting the stroke unit, Janet said:

“I have a long running campaign to see services returned to Llandudno Hospital, and for our local medical hub to be a key part of the solution to some of the challenges faced by the Health Board.

“I am delighted that Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is listening and acting.

“Alongside reducing pressure on acute hospitals, the stroke unit provides evidence based, patient-centred and goal-oriented intensive rehabilitation in line with national stroke standards. So impressive is the programme that it attracted a consultant to move from London to work here!

“On the 75th anniversary of the NHS, I am delighted that we have good news from Llandudno Hospital.

“You can be sure that I am continuing to work very closely with the Health Board team with the aim of ensuring that there is even more good news to come!”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS wedi canmol Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr am lwyddiant ei uned strôc newydd yn Ysbyty Llandudno.

Agorodd yr uned strôc ym mis Rhagfyr 2022. Mae'n ganolfan gymunedol arbenigol er mwyn adsefydlu cleifion mewnol, nad oes angen triniaeth strôc arbenigol arnyn nhw mewn ysbyty acíwt mwyach ond sy'n dal i fod angen gwasanaeth adsefydlu nad oes modd ei ddarparu gartref.

Caiff cleifion eu hannog i gymryd rhan mewn gweithgareddau ac ymarferion sydd wedi'u cynllunio i hybu a hyrwyddo adferiad ac annibyniaeth, gan gynnwys tasgau hunanofal dyddiol, cerdded a chyfathrebu a thasgau gwybyddol.

Mae'r uned 16 gwely wedi rhoi cymorth i 81 o gleifion hyd yma.

Wrth siarad ar ôl ymweld â'r uned strôc, dywedodd Janet:

“Fe wnes i ymgyrchu'n hir i weld gwasanaethau'n dychwelyd i Ysbyty Llandudno, ac i'n canolfan feddygol leol fod yn rhan allweddol o'r ateb i rai o'r heriau sy'n wynebu'r Bwrdd Iechyd.

“Dwi'n falch iawn bod Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr yn gwrando ac yn gweithredu.

“Ochr yn ochr â lleihau'r pwysau ar ysbytai acíwt, mae'r uned strôc yn darparu gwasanaeth adsefydlu dwys seiliedig ar dystiolaeth, sy'n canolbwyntio ar y claf ac sy'n cyd-fynd â nodau'r safonau strôc cenedlaethol. Mae'n rhaglen mor drawiadol fel ei bod wedi denu ymgynghorydd o Lundain i weithio yma!

“Ar ben-blwydd y GIG yn 75 oed, dwi wrth fy modd bod gennym newyddion da o Ysbyty Llandudno.

“Heb os, byddaf yn parhau i weithio'n agos iawn gyda thîm y Bwrdd Iechyd gyda'r nod o sicrhau bod mwy o newyddion da i ddod!”
