Battle of words at Marl Lane Planning Inquiry

During the first day of the inquiry into whether planning should be granted for the application to build 110 homes off Marl Lane, Deganwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, has made her objections known to the inquiry.

Janet said:

“Since the development was first announced, I have been contacted by countless constituents expressing their opposition to the plans. I have been proud to stand up for and with them in objecting to this development throughout the whole process, culminating in my statement being presented to the Planning Inspectorate this morning.

“As I explained in it, I remain totally opposed to the development for many reasons. These include a considerable number of contraventions of national and local planning policy, disapplication of paragraph 6.2 of TAN 1, GP provision concerns, and the exceptional level of local objection.

“Also, this application deviates considerably from our adopted LDP, one which cost over a million pounds to deliver and was democratically adopted at the time of deposit.

“If the Inspector overturns the decision of the democratically elected local planning authority members, this will set a very dangerous precedent for any of our remaining green belt areas in Conwy.

“Going forward, there is a requirement on the Welsh Government to demonstrate they have listened to the democratic will of the people. Therefore, if we are let down, the Cabinet Secretary will have many questions to answer”.
