A new community shop has been opened in Llandudno by the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), a charity helping to alleviate poverty and provide relief for vulnerable people in local communities.

On Thursday 5 January 2017 Welsh Assembly Member Janet Finch-Saunders, together with Mayor, Councillor Carol Marubbi officially opened the St Vincent’s shop and meet staff and volunteers.

The St Vincent’s shop will be one of nearly 50 community shops run by the SVP across England and Wales. All of the shops are situated in areas of need, close to local communities who often rely on the shops as a friendly place to go for company, conversation and affordable goods.

As well as providing quality second hand products at affordable prices, the shops also serve the community by training and providing valuable skills and experience for volunteers.

Honora Crisp, SVP Area Manager for North Wales says: “As well as the usual shop related duties of operating the till and serving customers, we have lots of volunteers working behind the scenes sorting stock, repairing and painting furniture, valuing books and antiques and even carrying out PAT tests on electrical equipment to check it is safe for sale. We are also always grateful for someone who can make the cups of tea too!”

Shop manager, Bethan Spicer says: “We are delighted to be able to open this shop in Llandudno which will raise vital funds to help local people in need. We hope the local community will become involved through volunteering or donating items they no longer need.”

Janet Finch-Saunders AM says: “The work of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society is invaluable to so many both here in Aberconwy and across the world. It is wonderful that the Society have been able to set up a shop in Llandudno – and I have no doubt that they will be welcoming many donations from across the community in the wake of the Christmas period!”

In a message to SVP Cllr Carol Marubbi, Mayor of Llandudno said “I was delighted to attend the opening of the new Saint Vincent de Paul Society shop in Llandudno.  On behalf of Llandudno Town Council, I would like to wish you success and I am happy to continue to support the excellent work that you do here in Llandudno and across the world”.

The new Llandudno St Vincent’s shop is situated at 11 Mostyn Street. To enquire about making a donation or volunteering, telephone Bethan Spicer on 01492 876 236.
