Attending a Royal College of Nursing and the Stroke Association awareness-raising event on Atrial Fibrillation. at the National Assembly, Cllr Janet Finch-Saunders AM, Shadow Minister for Social Services, said:
"I am delighted to have been present at this meeting and to have met a number of people who are affected by atrial fibrillation. Their excellent treatment by the NHS means that they can continue to lead as normal a life as possible".
"It is absolutely crucial that those who suffer from atrial fibrillation (AF) – an irregular heartbeat – receive the appropriate medical treatment for this condition, as AF increases your risk of a stroke by up to five times".
"I would like to pay tribute to RCN Wales and Stroke Association Wales for the valuable work they are doing in raising awareness about AF, and its detection as a key factor in preventing a stroke, together with the various courses of treatment available. I am fully supportive of the Stroke Association’s Ask First – to Prevent a Stroke Later campaign".
