Arriva Buses Wales Agree to Change Bus Routes for Residents Cut-off in Deganwy

With Station Road, Deganwy, closed to all traffic between 2 September 2025 and 21 November 2025, Arriva Wales have diverted all bus services via Llanrhos.

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, acting on behalf of residents, has made formal requests for urgent consideration to be given to providing a shuttle service or improved diversion route for public transport users from central Deganwy.

The bus services affected are 5D, 13, 15, and 24.

Responding to the concerns raised by Mrs Finch-Saunders, Arriva Buses Wales have advised today (11/09/2025) that the diversion route will be changed on Monday (15/09/2025) so that all bus services, running in both directions, operate via Rockfield drive and Hawes Drive.

Arriva added:

“As I'm sure you can imagine this is a very difficult and costly situation for ourselves, as it significantly stretches our resource for the route and will directly impact our service punctuality.

“We have also risk assessed options of operating a shuttle service, however given our current fleet we do not believe there is a suitable safe option for us to operate.  Alongside this we have approached TFW… to see if they can support in anyway who have advised us they are unable to.  Whilst we are aware this is an inconvenience to the area, it is a very challenging diversion for ourselves to operate and has been forced upon us.  We will happily continue to work with yourselves and TFW to look for the most suitable and safe option for our customer base”.

Commenting, Janet said:

“I thank Arriva Buses Wales for their prompt responses to my correspondence, and for the steps taken so to change the diversion route.

“The new route commencing on Monday will mean that buses reach stops closer to central Deganwy.

“I appreciate that this is not a perfect solution, but it is an improvement to a situation caused by the major road closure.

“I thank Arriva Buses Wales, Wales & West, and Cllr Samantha Cotton for their cooperation so to try and ensure that public transport is accessible to more residents in Deganwy”.
