Janet Finch-Saunders MS/AS wishes all competitors in this week’s Eisteddfod yr Urdd the very best of luck and looks forward to seeing local talent shine in individual and group competitions. Janet is pleased to see that this years Eisteddfod can go ahead, after significant disruption as a result of COVID-19.

Commenting on this year’s Eisteddfod, Janet said.

“I’m delighted to see the return of Eisteddfod yr Urdd this year, and that people from across the nation will be able to enjoy the competitions in person."

“The Eisteddfod gives young people from across Wales the opportunity to compete and participate in an internationally renowned cultural event that is unique to Wales. I wish to applaud the organisation for the innovation they have shown in response to the pandemic.  They have gone beyond to ensure that our tradition of competition was not completely grounded to a halt”

Janet goes on to add.

“The Urdd has been the bed rock for many young people in Wales, broadening the Welsh language and building relationships between cohorts who come from diverse backgrounds. Work carried out by the Urdd has been an integral pillar within our education and youth services and this year, as they celebrated their 100th anniversary, they continue to show the momentum they can give to Welsh culture and heritage.”

Janet looks forward to seeing many of the young people from Aberconwy compete this week and wishes them the best of luck as they compete against other young people from across Wales.
