Having recently written to the Welsh Government to report the alleged harvesting of razor clams along the Llanfairfechan and Penmaenmawr beaches, in breach of prohibition orders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders has secured assurances from the Welsh Government that monitoring, and enforcement work is ongoing.

Commenting on the news Janet said:

“The razor clam beds in Llanfairfechan and Penmaenmawr were originally closed in 2017 and the current closure is due to continue until the end of this year. This action has been taken to safeguard the local razor clam population.

“Given this, I am delighted to be informed by the Minister that Welsh Government officials continue to update signage regarding this closure to raise awareness. Additionally, Marine Enforcement Officers (MEOs) continue to patrol this section of coastline to ensure compliance and to monitor fishing activities along the North Wales coast.

“However, should any resident have intelligence regarding illegal fishing activity at this location or others, then I would encourage them to report it to: [email protected].

“We must all play our part to safeguard and preserve our marine environment and marine biodiversity for future generations.”

Ar ôl ysgrifennu’n ddiweddar at Lywodraeth Cymru i roi gwybod am yr honiad bod cyllyll môr yn cael eu cynaeafu ar hyd traethau Llanfairfechan a Phenmaenmawr, yn groes i orchmynion gwahardd, mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi cael sicrwydd gan Lywodraeth Cymru bod gwaith monitro a gorfodaeth yn mynd rhagddo.

Gan roi ei sylwadau ar y newyddion, dywedodd Janet:

“Caewyd y gwelyau cyllyll môr yn Llanfairfechan a Phenmaenmawr yn wreiddiol yn 2017 a’r bwriad yw eu cadw ar gau hyd ddiwedd y flwyddyn. Mae’r camau hyn wedi’u cymryd i ddiogelu’r boblogaeth cyllyll môr lleol.

“O ystyried hyn, rwy’n falch iawn clywed bod swyddogion Llywodraeth Cymru yn parhau i ddiweddaru arwyddion mewn perthynas â’r cau i godi ymwybyddiaeth. Hefyd, mae Swyddogion Gorfodi Morol yn parhau i batrolio’r rhan hon o’r arfordir er mwyn sicrhau cydymffurfiaeth a monitro gweithgareddau pysgota ar hyd arfordir y Gogledd.

“Fodd bynnag, os oes gan unrhyw breswylwyr wybodaeth am weithgarwch pysgota anghyfreithlon yn y lleoliad hwn neu mewn lleoliadau eraill, dylent hysbysu: [email protected].

“Mae’n rhaid i ni i gyd gyfrannu at yr ymdrech i ddiogelu a gwarchod ein hamgylchedd morol a’n bioamrywiaeth forol ar gyfer cenedlaethau’r dyfodol.”
