Aberconwy MS Welcomes Wales Coastal Path Action in West Shore

Following considerable concerns having been raised with Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, about the coastal path at West Shore, the Member has welcomed the announcement that Conwy County Borough Council has secured funding to realign the national route onto the footpath on top of the dunes.

Work to move the public right of way on top of the dunes is afoot this week. The footpath along the edge of the golf course will be improved with a better surface and more signage. Walkers will be able to follow the Wales coast path on top of the dunes and cyclists can use the new Active Travel route between West Shore and Deganwy which runs along Maesdu Road.

Commenting on the works, Janet said:

“Wales was the first nation to have an uninterrupted route along a national coast, so the block at West Shore was both a local and national concern.

“As the Welsh Government and Conwy County Borough Council know, I have received many complaints, including about people in wheelchairs being unable to use the route.

“I am delighted that a solution has been found to this long running problem, and that we will once again have a united coastal path here in Llandudno.

“My thanks go to Conwy Council for committing to solve a national problem which the Welsh Government did very little to assist with when asked”.
