The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has welcomed the launch of the new T10 TrawsCymru, which provides a sustainable means of transport within and around Snowdonia National Park. The route links Bangor and Corwen, connecting with the Snowdon Sherpa network at Betws y Coed and Capel Curig.
The T10 TrawsCymru operates seven days per week, with all journeys operated by modern and comfortable coach style vehicles. In her role as the Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Janet has been calling for a “reshaping of public transport services in Wales” to meet transport needs for rural communities in a way that acknowledges the nation’s carbon emission targets.
Commenting on the launch, Janet said:
“The launch of the T10 TrawsCymru route does much to extend the geographical reach of public transport into our rural communities and local employment centres, ensuring that residents and visitors can travel across the National Park region in a sustainable fashion.
“This launch lays down the gauntlet for more drastic moves to improve access to public transport across the region. Indeed, I have long campaigned for a direct rail service from Manchester Airport to Blaenau Ffestiniog, supported by an integrated timetabling of rail and bus services so that tourists can easily go by public transport from cities to the highest peak in England and Wales.
“Whilst it is great to see the influx of visitors enjoying and respecting our green open spaces, residents will be the first to highlight that the area is often flooded with private vehicles. By joining the dots of our public transport offer, which this route helps to do, we can begin to remove this impact and remain united in our mission to achieve our net zero targets.”
