North Wales has experienced a record-breaking summer for visitor numbers, the region's tourism association says. In remarks made to the BBC, the chairman of North Wales Tourism, Chris Frost, said the number of day trips and overnight stays is up, with people booking for longer than usual.
The news was welcomed by Janet Finch-Saunders MS, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, who this week has undertaken a food and drink tour of the constituency, highlighting the unique experience-based businesses who are helping to draw visitors to the region.
Among the places visited included Plas Maenan Country House, Tu Hwnt l'r Bont café in Llanrwst, White Tower Greek Restaurant in Llandudno, and the Ty Gwyn pub in Rowen. Yesterday, the Member also toasted the success of the Gwinllan Conwy vineyard.
Welcoming the uplift in visitors, Janet said:
“The reported uplift in visitors recorded to North Wales is a most welcome sight, enabling our fantastic hospitality and tourism businesses to bounce back stronger after a very challenging 18 months, and hopefully setting a positive forward trend for the holiday seasons to come.
“North Wales is the true home of experience holidays, with my constituency of Aberconwy offering a splendid and unique mix of coastal and mountainous adventures, as well as dining quality. This has been reaffirmed by my most recent food and drink tour of the region, taking in our towns and villages.
“Having met with representatives from the hospitality and accommodation sectors in a virtual roundtable last week, I was eager to experience their tremendous work on the frontline. From this tour, it is clear to see that our local businesses are going above and beyond, in spite of staffing challenging, to ensure that visitors and residents can have a pleasurable and memorable experience.”
