Aberconwy MS highlights disappointing investment in 3G pitches by the Welsh Government

The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has expressed her disappointment in learning that since 2019 the Welsh Government has only invested £3.5 million in the development of 3G pitches across Wales, with only another £1.2 million being spent on artificial turf projects over the same period.

Commenting on the matter Janet said:

“It is deeply disappointing to see the Welsh Government provide such little support and investment in upgrading sporting facilities across Wales over the last three years. Especially in comparison to the UK Government, which this year alone has invested £1.3 million in upgrading Welsh football facilities.

“This huge investment is a part of a £25 million UK-wide investment in grassroot facilities during the financial year and is only the first tranche of a £230 million investment in football facilities that seeks to build or upgrade 8,000 quality pitches across the UK.

“It is clear that the UK Government is leading the way in improving access to quality sporting facilities to communities right across Wales. Therefore, I would urge the Welsh Government to up their game to see the development of modern 3G pitches up and down our country.”
