Aberconwy MS encourages Town & Community Councils to participate in “The Queen’s Green Canopy”

Ahead of the Platinum Jubilee His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has launched “The Queen’s Green Canopy” (QGC), a campaign that seeks to encourage organisations and individuals alike to plant trees in recognition of this national occasion.

In support of this important mission, The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has written to every Town and Community Council in Aberconwy encouraging them to participate in this national effort and to begin planting trees ahead of the Jubilee.

Commenting on the matter Janet said:

“Last year the Senedd declared that Wales is facing a climate and nature emergency and it has been outstanding to see The Queen and other members of the Royal Family continually work to raise the importance of protecting our environment for future generations and tackling climate change urgently.

“QGC will assist in this important national battle, not only by helping Wales meet its net zero targets but also in providing vital woodland and habitats for hundreds of species whose existence has been threatened over recent decades.

“The Queen has been the figurehead and servant of our nation for 70 years. Throughout that time, she has always provided stable and inspirational leadership during periods of unparalleled change.

“In recognition of this lifetime of service, I can think of no better tribute to Her Majesty than to plant trees which will mark her steadfast leadership for many years to come. I would urge individuals, organisations and our Town and Community Councils alike to fully engage with this campaign and to begin a tree planting programme across Wales in honour of The Queen.”
