World Earth Day is an annual celebration to demonstrate support for environmental protection. With the event first being held in 1970 the movement has continued to grow and now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally with allegedly over 1 billion people participating.
The Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Janet Finch-Saunders, has passed on her best wishes to all celebrating this important day across Wales and the UK.
Commenting on World Earth Day Janet said:
“Tackling Climate Change and protecting our environment for future generations is one of the most pressing issue of our time and I firmly believe that Wales can only confront its climate and nature emergencies if we all play our part.
“World Earth Day provides a unique opportunity for people to reflect on their environmental footprint and the difference that they can make in our battle against climate change. While I am committed to holding the Welsh Government to account over their slow response to addressing this urgent matter, it is clear that we can not leave Wales’s response to climate change up to the Welsh Government alone.
“As such, I would encourage the people of Wales to use World Earth Day to inspire local environmental action, whether that be in participating in a beach clean, a litter pick or in tree planting, we all can play our role in protecting our environment for future generations.”
