Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is delighted to celebrate 40 years of Volunteers’ Week.

This week is a chance to recognise, celebrate and thank the UK’s incredible volunteers for all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector, and society as a whole.

We think of those who volunteer with our emergency services, in the care sector, with youth engagement and in schools and clubs.

From open days to celebration events, every year hundreds of online and in-person activities take place across the UK to mark Volunteers’ Week and celebrate volunteers.

This year Volunteers’ Week will culminate in The Big Help Out, from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th June, where people across the UK will get the chance to experience a range of volunteer taster sessions.

Commenting on the news, Janet said:

“I am delighted to celebrate Volunteers Week. Giving up ones time to help others is a pillar of humanity. Volunteering has been shown to not only benefit those getting the help but also to improve volunteers’ wellbeing.

“Volunteering can also gain us new skills and experiences, and boost ones confidence.

“Almost one in five people volunteer at least once a month in the UK, with many more volunteering informally doing things like shopping, providing childcare or doing housework for free for those in need.

“I would encourage anyone who’s considering it to volunteer their time and become part of a growing community that displays the very best of humanity.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy yn falch o ddathlu 40 mlynedd o Wythnos u Gwirfoddolwyr.

Mae'r wythnos yn gyfle i gydnabod, dathlu a diolch i wirfoddolwyr anhygoel y DU am bopeth maen nhw’n ei gyfrannu i'n cymunedau lleol, y sector gwirfoddol a'r gymdeithas gyfan.

Rydyn ni’n meddwl am y rhai sy'n gwirfoddoli gyda'n gwasanaethau brys, yn y sector gofal, yn ymgysylltu ag ieuenctid ac mewn ysgolion a chlybiau.

O ddiwrnodau agored i ddigwyddiadau dathlu, bob blwyddyn mae cannoedd o weithgareddau ar-lein ac wyneb yn wyneb yn cael eu cynnal ledled y DU i nodi Wythnos y Gwirfoddolwyr a dathlu gwirfoddolwyr.

Bydd Wythnos y Gwirfoddolwyr eleni yn dod i benllanw yn The Big Help Out, o ddydd Gwener 7 i ddydd Sul 9 Mehefin, lle bydd pobl ledled y DU yn cael cyfle i brofi amrywiaeth o sesiynau blasu gwirfoddolwyr.

Wrth sôn am y newyddion, dywedodd Janet:

“Rwy'n falch iawn o ddathlu Wythnos y Gwirfoddolwyr. Mae rhoi o’ch amser i helpu eraill yn un o hanfodion dynoliaeth. Dangoswyd bod gwirfoddoli nid yn unig o fudd i'r rhai sy'n derbyn y cymorth ond mae’n gwella lles gwirfoddolwyr hefyd.

“Gall gwirfoddoli roi sgiliau a phrofiadau newydd i ni hefyd, a rhoi hwb i hyder rhywun.

“Mae bron i un o bob pump o bobl yn gwirfoddoli o leiaf unwaith y mis yn y DU, gyda llawer mwy yn gwirfoddoli'n anffurfiol drwy wneud pethau fel siopa, darparu gofal plant neu wneud gwaith tŷ am ddim i'r rhai mewn angen.

“Byddwn yn annog unrhyw un sy'n ystyried hyn i wirfoddoli eu hamser a dod yn rhan o gymuned sy'n tyfu ac sy’n dangos dynoliaeth ar ei gorau.”
