Aberconwy MS calls for return of hotel entertainment and social distancing parity

The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has called on the Welsh Government to ensure that a level playing field is implemented so that hoteliers across Aberconwy can work to the one-metre-plus rule and have live entertainment. It comes after concerns have been raised about the impact that a lack of in-hotel entertainment is having on the region’s ability to draw visitors on coach trips.

Commenting on her request to the Trefnydd, Janet said:

“Whilst it has been marvellous to see the reopening of local hotels and restaurants, they continue to be at a major disadvantage to those businesses over the border. Indeed, our hospitality businesses remain subjected to the two metre rule, whilst in England it is a much more realistic one-metre-plus.

“Wales also continues to have an unreasonable prohibition on live performance in hotels. Some local performers and entertainers have not worked for over a year. My office has also received concerns that some  hotels are losing customers to England because of this factor.

“The Welsh Government must urgently bring forward a statement in the Senedd to ensure that we have a level playing field so that our hoteliers can work to the one metre plus rule and so that we may support the return of live entertainment in hotels.”
