Following a drop in GP numbers across North Wales, Janet Finch-Saunders AM has slammed the Welsh Labour Government for inaction, calling on them to recruit and train more GPs in the area.

Janet said:

“Constituents voice their concerns to me over falling GP provision in Aberconwy on a regular basis.

“The termination of the NHS contract at Llys Meddyg, alongside the reduction in doctor numbers at Penrhyn Bay and staffing issues in rural areas, have had a huge impact on patients. The situation is simply not sustainable.

“This is a shocking failing of residents of Aberconwy by the Welsh Labour Government. We need strong leadership to ensure the right polices are prioritised to train, recruit and retain GPs in the area.”

Notes:

The number of GPs in North Wales has fallen from 455 in 2010 to 440 in 2016, despite an increase in the number of registered patients from 694,878 in 2009 to 701,883 in 2016.
