ASSEMBLY Member for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has accompanied RSPCA inspector Mike Pugh on several calls in and around the region.

The ride-along on Wednesday 10 August gave Mrs Finch-Saunders a chance to experience what RSPCA inspectors deal with on a day-to-day basis. Throughout the course of a busy day, they dealt with a number of routine calls, including dog and cat welfare calls. They also visits RSPCA Bryn-y-Maen Animal Centre in Upper Colwyn Bay.

Mrs Finch-Saunders said: “The day out was a real eye-opener, and gave me a thorough insight into the incredible day-to-day undertakings of our hardworking RSPCA inspectors.

“Having worked in the pet industry for many years, I have the greatest respect for the work of the RSPCA. This visit showed me just how hard they work, and the immense tact, diplomacy and sensitivity they display every day.

“Pets can be a wonderful addition to any home, but it is vital that owners are fully aware of their needs to ensure that they can make wonderful memories together.”

RSPCA inspector Mike Pugh added: “It was a pleasure to welcome Mrs Finch-Saunders to spend a day with me in which we attended several calls.

“It was really nice to have the opportunity to show an Assembly Member the difficulties and challenges we face on a daily basis. I think a lot of people don’t realise it.”

A number of Assembly Members and Members of Parliament across Wales have spent days-out with local RSPCA inspectors, gaining valuable insight into the work the Society does to uphold and improve standards of animal welfare.
