9.67% Council Tax Increase in Conwy Criticised / Beirniadu Cynnydd o 9.67% yn y Dreth Gyngor yng Nghonwy

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy has spoken out against the 9.67% council tax increase in Conwy County Borough Council.

Councillors supported the recommendation that the Council’s part of the “band D” council tax for 2024-25 be £1,733.37. This is an increase of £152.84 for the year for band D, and even more for properties in higher bands.

Commenting on the council tax increase, Janet said:

“As the Welsh Conservative Group on Conwy Council, under the leadership of Cllr Cheryl Carlisle, highlighted, the budget fails to offer certainty to residents and schools.

“Despite massive cuts to services and increase in the tax burden for rate payers, we are still on course to see millions spent on housing people in hotels instead of homes.

“The Local Authority does not know the costs of the redundancies that are going to have to be made.

“Millions are being spent on electric lorries, money wasted on unusable units in Mochdre, and the completely unnecessary headquarters in Colwyn Bay.

“Alongside Conwy Council, Welsh Government has a lot to answer for too. There is no doubt that the funding formula used to decide the allocation of money to local authorities in Wales is flawed. Around 30% of the data used in the formula is long out of date. Some of it goes back to 1991!”

ENDS

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o Senedd Cymru dros Aberconwy, wedi beirniadu’r cynnydd  o 9.67% yn y dreth gyngor yng Nghyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy.

Mae cynghorwyr wedi cefnogi’r argymhelliad i bennu rhan y Cyngor o’r dreth gyngor “band D” ar gyfer 2024-25 ar £1,733.37. Mae hwn yn gynnydd o £152.84 y flwyddyn ar gyfer band D, a chynnydd hyd yn oed yn fwy ar gyfer eiddo mewn bandiau uwch.

Wrth siarad am y cynnydd mewn treth gyngor, meddai Janet:

“Fel y nodwyd gan Grŵp y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yng Nghyngor Conwy o dan arweinyddiaeth y Cynghorydd Cheryl Carlisle, mae’r gyllideb yn methu â rhoi sicrwydd i drigolion ac ysgolion.

“Er gwaethaf toriadau enfawr i wasanaethau a chynnydd yn y baich treth ar gyfer talwyr ardrethi, mae’n debygol iawn y bydd miliynau o bunnoedd yn cael eu gwario ar gartrefu pobl mewn gwestai yn hytrach na chartrefi.

“Nid yw’r Awdurdod Lleol yn gwybod beth fydd costau’r diswyddiadau y bydd angen eu gwneud.

“Mae miliynau o bunnoedd yn cael eu gwario ar loriau trydan, ac mae arian yn cael ei wastraffu ar unedau nad oes modd eu defnyddio ym Mochdre ac ar y bencadlys gwbl ddiangen ym Mae Colwyn.

“Yn ogystal â Chyngor Conwy, mae gan Lywodraeth Cymru lawer o gwestiynau i’w hateb hefyd. Does dim amheuaeth bod y fformiwla ariannu sy’n cael ei defnyddio i ddyrannu arian i awdurdodau lleol yng Nghymru yn ddiffygiol. Mae tua 30% o’r data sy’n cael ei ddefnyddio yn y fformiwla wedi hen ddyddio. Mae rhywfaint ohono yn mynd yn ôl i 1991!”
