5th Delay of Opening of Llandudno Orthopaedic Hub/Oedi am y pumed tro cyn agor Hwb Orthopedig Llandudno

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Bangor Conwy Môn, has expressed significant concern regarding the continued delays to the opening of the Llandudno Orthopaedic Hub, as its opening has now been pushed back for the fifth time.

The hub was originally set to open in early 2025, but is now expected to open before the end of 2026. Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has stated that the most recent delays are due to the comprehensive checks required before the centre can begin treating patients. These include rigorous testing of all systems, equipment and environmental controls.

Janet commented:

“This facility was designed to take pressure off our hospitals and reduce waiting lists for orthopaedic surgery, yet with these continuous delays to its opening, that pressure remains.

“This is even more concerning, with a Senior Clinician reporting to me, that the current Abergele Orthopaedics Theatre is performing on average 12 operating sessions per week compared to the target of 20.

“While it is essential that these rigorous checks are undertaken, they should have been factored into the original opening date. I have championed the opening of this site for years, and I will continue to press for answers and demand that every effort is made to get this facility open and treating patients.

“Patients across North Wales cannot afford to wait any longer. The people who have been waiting months, and in some cases years, for treatment deserve action, not another delay.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Bangor Conwy Môn, wedi mynegi pryder sylweddol ynglŷn â'r oedi parhaus cyn agor Hwb Orthopedig Llandudno, gyda'r agoriad swyddogol wedi’i wthio'n ôl am y pumed tro.

Roedd yr Hwb i fod i agor ddechrau 2025, ond erbyn hyn mae disgwyl iddo agor cyn diwedd 2026. Mae Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr wedi dweud bod yr oedi diweddaraf oherwydd y gwiriadau cynhwysfawr sydd eu hangen cyn y gall y ganolfan ddechrau trin cleifion. Mae'r rhain yn cynnwys profion trwyadl o'r holl systemau, offer a rheolaethau amgylcheddol.

Meddai Janet:

“Cafodd y ganolfan hon ei chynllunio i dynnu pwysau oddi ar ein hysbytai a lleihau rhestrau aros ar gyfer llawdriniaeth orthopedig, ond mae'r pwysau hwnnw'n parhau yn sgil yr oedi parhaus.

“Mater pryderus arall yw'r ffaith fod Uwch Glinigydd wedi dweud wrthyf bod Theatr Orthopedig Abergele yn cyflawni 12 sesiwn lawdriniaeth yr wythnos ar gyfartaledd o gymharu â'r targed o 20.

“Er bod yr archwiliadau trwyadl hyn yn hollbwysig, dylid bod wedi eu hystyried wrth lunio’r dyddiad agor gwreiddiol. Rydw i wedi hyrwyddo'r safle hwn ers blynyddoedd, a byddaf yn parhau i bwyso am atebion a mynnu bod pob ymdrech yn cael ei wneud i sicrhau bod y cyfleuster hwn ar agor ac yn trin cleifion.

“All cleifion y Gogledd ddim fforddio aros mwyach. Mae'r rheini sydd wedi bod yn aros misoedd am driniaeth, blynyddoedd mewn rhai achosion, yn haeddu gweld pethau’n symud yn eu blaen, nid mwy o oedi.”
