474 litter items were removed from a 100m section of North Shore beach, Llandudno, during a beach clean held by Janet Finch-Saunders MS and the Marine Conservation Society.

Almost 70% of the waste was plastic/polystyrene.

Common items included 10 Caps / lids; 55 Packets (crisp, sweet, lolly, sandwich); and 102 cigarette stubs.

Among the team of 18 volunteers were employees from Llaeth Y Llan dairy.

Speaking after the beach clean, Janet said:

“I am grateful to the Marine Conservation Society, Llaeth Y Llan, and all volunteers for coming together to help care for our environment.

“It is alarming that hundreds of litter items were found on such a short stretch of beach.

“When considering the proliferation of bottle lids, packets, and cigarette stubs, it is apparent to me that all of us need to take individual responsibility. Those items should be disposed of responsibility, not on a beach enjoyed by the community”.

Cafodd 474 o eitemau sbwriel eu casglu o 100m o Draeth y Gogledd, Llandudno, yn ystod gwaith glanhau’r traeth a gynhaliwyd gan Janet Finch-Saunders AS a'r Gymdeithas Cadwraeth Forol.

Plastig/polystyren oedd bron i 70% o'r holl wastraff.

Roedd eitemau cyffredin yn cynnwys 10 cap / caead; 55 o bacedi (creision, fferins, lolis, brechdanau); a 102 o stympiau sigaréts.

Roedd gweithwyr Llaeth y Llan ymhlith y criw o 18 o wirfoddolwyr a ddaeth draw i helpu.

Wrth siarad ar ôl y sesiwn glanhau'r traeth, dywedodd Janet:

"Hoffwn ddiolch i'r Gymdeithas Cadwraeth Forol, Llaeth y Llan, a'r holl wirfoddolwyr am ddod at ei gilydd i helpu i ofalu am ein hamgylchedd.

“Mae'n frawychus bod cannoedd o eitemau sbwriel wedi eu canfod ar gyn lleied o draeth.

“O gofio'r doreth o gaeadau poteli, pacedi a stympiau sigaréts oedd yno, mae'n gwbl amlwg bod angen i bob un ohonon ni gymryd cyfrifoldeb unigol. Dylid cael gwared ar yr eitemau hyn mewn ffordd gyfrifol, nid ar draeth sy'n rhoi cymaint o bleser a mwynhad i'r gymuned".
