As part of her ongoing campaign to secure improvements to the Conwy Valley Railway Line, Janet Finch-Saunders MS has discovered that 178 trains were cancelled between December 2022 and December 2023.

Out of the cancellations, 36 were due to “unit shortages / units not kept to diagram”, meaning that up to 36 Conwy Valley trains may have been diverted for use on other routes.

“178 trains being cancelled last year is unacceptable!

“People rely on these services for essential travel purposes including health appointments. The bus replacement services can leave residents waiting in the cold and rain which would surely affect those who use the service.

“It is difficult to understand how local citizens would trust the already limited service, or plan their travels accordingly. I am certain that where possible, some will look at other, private, transport options.

“There is an urgent need to improve reliability of the services to bring faith back to our rail network.”

ENDS

Fel rhan o'i hymgyrch barhaus i sicrhau gwelliannau i Reilffordd Dyffryn Conwy, mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS wedi canfod bod 178 o drenau wedi'u canslo rhwng mis Rhagfyr 2022 a mis Rhagfyr 2023.

O'r holl wasanaethau a gafodd eu canslo, roedd 36 o ganlyniad i “unit shortages / units not kept to diagram”, gyda hyd at 36 o drenau Dyffryn Conwy felly o bosib wedi eu dargyfeirio i'w defnyddio ar lwybrau eraill.

Mewn ymateb, dywedodd Janet:

“Mae 178 o drenau wedi eu canslo y llynedd yn gwbl annerbyniol!

“Mae pobl yn dibynnu ar y gwasanaethau hyn at ddibenion teithio hanfodol gan gynnwys mynd i apwyntiadau iechyd. Mae'r gwasanaethau bysiau yn lle trenau yn gallu golygu bod trigolion yn gorfod aros mewn tywydd gwlyb ac oer, a does bosib fod yn effeithio ar y niferoedd sy'n defnyddio'r gwasanaeth.

“Mae'n anodd deall sut mae disgwyl i bobl leol ymddiried mewn gwasanaeth sydd eisoes yn gyfyngedig, neu gynllunio eu teithiau yn unol â hynny. Dwi'n siŵr y bydd rhai'n ystyried opsiynau trafnidiaeth eraill, preifat, lle bo modd.

“Mae angen gwella dibynadwyedd y gwasanaethau ar frys er mwyn adfer ffydd pobl yn ein rhwydwaith trenau."
