The Planning Committee of Conwy County Borough Council has today (18/06/2025) voted in favour of the planning application to place new mobile phone antennas on top of Venue Cymru.
The Committee saw 11 councillors vote in favour of the proposal to go against the Local Authority officers recommendation, and 1 councillors abstain. The officers had recommended refusal, primarily due to the objection by the Conservation Officer.
Planning Committee have to reaffirm their decision next month.
Commenting on the outcome of the Committee meeting, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, who has led the campaign for improved mobile signal in Llandudno, said:
“The current mobile signal in Llandudno is shocking. Mobile payment machines are failing, leaving businesses unable to take payments; and residents and visitors cannot get hold of loved ones.
“I am grateful to everyone who has supported my campaign, including the hundreds who signed my petition, local businesses, Mostyn Estates Ltd, and especially Clarke Telecom. This telecommunications provider has listened to the serious concerns I raised on behalf of the community, designed a solution, and delivered a successful planning application.
“As I have said before, the objections by the Conservation Officer were unbelievable! However, I am delighted that the huge majority of the Planning Committee has agreed with all of us in the community, and made the commonsense decision to help bring Llandudno into the 21st Century. Thank you!
“You can be sure that I will continue to cooperate closely with the telecommunications company to see this project delivered”.
